MMU Leadership Forum - Thursday, 30 June 2011 (Invitation Only)

Building on the success of last year’s Leadership Forum, this invitation-only, closed door event allows decision makers from financial regulatory authorities and mobile operators to come together, to stimulate greater understanding and collaboration between all mobile money stakeholders globally.

The theme of this discussion will be “Regulation and Mobile Money for the Unbanked”, exploring the current challenges associated with regulating mobile financial services. As the focus will be on policy development, we are pleased to have the support of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion for this year’s event. Discussions will focus on the following topics:

  • Risks in non-bank e-money institutions: How can regulators and operators address these risks effectively?
  • Anti-money laundering frameworks for cash merchant networks: what is the distinction between cash merchants and agents and what are the respective risk profiles each present?
  • Consumer protection: what are the consumer protection issues in mobile money?

Both the MMU Working Group and Leadership Forum are closed door, invitation only events.

The MMU programme is funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. For more information about Mobile Money for the Unbanked please visit: http://www.gsmworld.com/our-work/mobile_planet/mobile_money_for_the_unbanked/index.htm.
